Meet Bekah Schields! An embroiderer, (board) gamer, and Metcalf’s Architectural Historian – she does it all! Bekah joined the Metcalf team in February 2021 and brought with her years of experience.
Bekah’s love for archaeology started in high school with a career aptitude test. The results were in alphabetical order, and she selected the first result to write her paper on, which happened to be archaeology. The rest, as they say, is history.
During her undergrad at Montana State University, she took part in a two field schools. First, a historic archaeology field school in Virginia City, Montana, and a field school in Turkey excavating a Neolithic tell site. The site was about ten miles from Catalhoyuk – she even got to meet Ian Hodder during her stay! Even with everything she worked on, she still found time to be a seasonal field tech in Montana!
After graduating, Bekah worked as a walking tour guide/ researcher with The Extreme History Project. She was also an outreach coordinator with Project Archaeology. Being in an inspiring and supportive environment pushed her to pursue her Master’s degree.
Bekah graduated with her Master’s degree in history at Colorado State University. While in graduate school, Bekah did fieldwork at Yellowstone National Park. She and her team surveyed over 200 Mission 66-era structures. This led to Bekahs’ love of mid-century design. After working on a few internships, she finally found her way to Metcalf.
Metcalf is very lucky to have Bekah as part of the team, and we look forward to seeing everything she achieves while with us.
