Hi all! I’ve been with Metcalf for just over 11 years. My father informs me that I first showed interest in archaeology at a young age. There was an exhibit at a children’s museum where you could grind corn with a mano and metate and I could NOT be pulled away. It did take a while longer to develop a conscious appreciation of the science with a field school in North Park, Colorado solidified my interest. Unfortunately, I stumbled across archaeology late in my college career so only had a minor with a degree in history. I can’t regret that too much because I had a phenomenal history advisor whose classes focused on the stories of everyday people. Isn’t that what truly interests us all in the first place?
After graduating with my BA in 2007, I moved to New Zealand for 9 months (letting the travel bug get the better of me). When I came back, I decided to pursue archaeology but ruptured my Achilles tendon playing volleyball before I could. After a year of recovery, I worked for the Wyoming State Archaeologist for a season, then nagged Metcalf non-stop until they hired me in 2010. The rest is history.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling. I’ve been lucky in that regard with opportunities to visit 13 countries (so far). I’m also an avid volleyball player/coach. That was another early childhood discovery and has been a great source of enjoyment for me ever since – injuries aside. Other than that, I’m starting to play in the dirt in my backyard (we’ll see whether my thumb is green or not), enjoy spoiling my sweet dog, go running occasionally, and look forward to warmer days ahead!
