Howdy, y’all! If I haven’t met you yet, my name is Brook and I have been working with Metcalf since 2021. I started as a seasonal field tech and have been a full time staff archaeologist since April 2022, based out of Lakewood.

My interest in archaeology extends way back to my 7th grade Egyptology unit. I have wanted to be in this field in some capacity pretty much since then and the archaeology program at Metro State sealed the deal (shoutout to my boy, Jon Kent!). My personal interests include castles, caves, and the American frontier. I’d like to go to grad school and focus a little more on the historical.

In my free time, I love climbing rocks, hiking, caving, and cooking. A fun fact about me is that I found a Clovis point this summer.

Metcalf Project Director Garrett Williams shared a story about working in the field with Brook last fall:

I was fortunate to spend some time in the field with Brook last fall and happened to look up in time to see Brook swing her arms then leap across a pretty darn deep and wide prospect pit*, gracefully landing on the other side, with loaded pack on. Oh, and through a tree – well maybe not a tree, but at least a large leafy branch. This was a day or so after we had scampered across the steep north side of a ski resort and the same day we had fought through “punch you in the face” brush on another north face. Anyway, my knees weren’t happy with me about the situation, so my first thought was, ‘is there a bear chasing her?‘, followed by, ’I would  never do that’ (again, with input from my knees), followed by, ‘hmmm, maybe there’s something to those canned fish lunches’. Of course, on a previous survey, Brook nearly had to be restrained from scampering up the cliff when the project area approached the climbing wall on Camp Hale!

*No prospect pits were harmed.
