Geoarchaeology
Through the acquisition of LaRamie Soils Services in 2011, Metcalf is able to provide in-house geoarchaeological service offerings. Our geoarchaeologists use a variety of earth sciences methodologies to help enhance our understanding of the archaeological record and assess the potential for buried cultural resources within your project area. This information can be used to inform the project planning and cultural resource management process to detect and avoid any potential disturbances that could impact your project. Our Services
Geoarchaeological investigations are part of the archaeological services we offer to support you through the compliance process. The results of these services provide a valuable component of cultural resource inventories that ensure all federal, state, tribal and municipal government requirements are fulfilled.
Metcalf’s geoarchaeological services include:
- Pre-field desktop analyses to identify project area landform sediment assemblages
- Field-based geomorphological and stratigraphic analyses like sediment coring and deep-testing to map project area landforms and evaluate the potential for buried cultural resources
- Site testing and mitigation phase investigations to establish site stratigraphy, chronology, site formation history, and paleoenvironmental reconstructions
