Innovating
Years and StillWHERE IT ALL STARTED
The 1980s,
in Eagle, Colorado
The first Metcalf office was in a humble garage.
We are so grateful to commemorate this milestone with our clients, partners and employee-owners. It is with humility and a bit of self-humor that we celebrate while doing our part to support those who got us here. Join us for a little “dig” into our past and get a glimpse of how, even after 40 years, we’re still bringing innovative solutions to our little corner of the world.

Making it Official
On April 16, 1980, the Colorado Secretary of State issued the certificate of incorporation for the firm that would become known as Metcalf Archaeological Consultants, Inc.
Dugway Proving Grounds, Utah, circa 1983

Over 9,000 projects, 600 clients
We are humbled by the confidence our clients and agency partners have shown in us over the years.
We couldn’t do it without you!
41 employee owners
Today, Metcalf is fully employee-owned, ensuring continuity and dedication, as well as an unparalleled level of expertise in the history of the Great Plains and Intermontane area.
Committed to heritage
Today, heritage is an important value driver for many businesses and communities, and we are proud to be leaders in making history come to life.
Giving back
Metcalf staff are never as happy as when we get to share history and context with our community. We enrich kids’ and adults’ lives by linking stories of our past with today’s experiences.
Innovation
In honor of our 40th, we are excited to deploy new mobile technology for real-time, interactive management of project and other technical data. Designed to streamline operations and synthesize critical information, the platform becomes a robust system for our clients and partners to help manage their work. We also leverage the underlying technology to bring stories about the past to life and expand how our clients and partners can help communities celebrate their cultural heritage.
